You might not have noticed that even a watch store in the bustling center of Shida Night Market can be very green! Located at the liveliest part of Shida Night Market, Watch Artisan is the only professional watch store among the myriad of food stalls and clothing shops. Its large display cases and open entrance create a refreshing and bright atmosphere, distinct from the typical night market ambiance. On the day of the interview, owner Mr. Huang Delong appeared in a black polo shirt and jeans, exuding a sharp yet relaxed style as he shared the story of Watch Artisan and his journey with DOMI Earth.
A Good Reputation Built on Professional Experience and Sustainability
Mr. Huang Delong has been learning watchmaking skills and knowledge with his cousin since childhood, having been in the industry for over 20 years. His willingness to share knowledge, coupled with years of accumulated expertise and a friendly service attitude, has earned Watch Artisan a stellar reputation far and wide. His love for sharing his expertise and helping others live better lives led to his meeting with DOMI Earth’s founding gardener, Brandon, three years ago. Their shared passion for customer relationship management, sustainable business values, and hospitality made for an instant connection! Mr. Huang decisively joined the initiative to save money and help the planet by switching to energy-efficient lighting, aligning with Watch Artisan’s sustainable environmental management philosophy. Just like the store’s reliable after-sales service—offering lifetime battery replacement and cleaning for all purchased watches—his commitment to sustainability is heartfelt and genuine.
Additionally, through the lighting change, Mr. Huang discovered how energy-intensive and hot the old halogen lamps were, potentially damaging the display items. After a professional assessment by DOMI Earth, all the indoor and outdoor lighting, including display lights, were replaced with cooler, longer-lasting, and more energy-efficient LED lights. During our chat, Mr. Huang and I marveled at the lighting industry revolution brought about by Nobel Prize in Physics laureate Shuji Nakamura’s invention of the blue LED, and lamented the impact of modern smartphones on watch sales! While phones can tell time, watches have lasting value. Mr. Huang pointed out that certain professions, such as students, military personnel, and bank clerks, often stabilize watch sales due to exams or restrictions on phone use. Just like choosing a good watch, a quality LED light is durable.
He hopes to encourage everyone to adopt this new mindset and join in the collective effort for a sustainable environment!
