While the U.S. boasts Antelope Canyon, Taiwan has “Antler Park,” a carbon-reducing restaurant nestled in the leafy breakfast street of Tucheng District, New Taipei City. Stepping into this spacious, light-industrial-inspired space next to the park, with large floor-to-ceiling windows that capture natural light and a pleasant, comfortable temperature, you’ll find a haven for quiet afternoon meals or weekend family and friend gatherings.
Pioneering Carbon Reduction in Trendy Dining
Two years ago, Antler Park was like any other restaurant, using halogen and tungsten bulbs to create ambiance. However, with Taiwan’s summer temperatures rising and electricity consumption increasing, the owner began to contemplate how to lower indoor temperatures. Higher temperatures cause the air conditioner compressor to run continuously, leading to high electricity bills and increased carbon emissions from the restaurant's operations.
Believing in DOMI Earth’s mission to support socially beneficial enterprises, the owner, who was previously unaware of the link between energy use and the environment, decided to entrust DOMI Earth with transforming the lighting in the restaurant, his home, and even his community space. The results were evident not only in maintaining the restaurant’s cherished ambiance but also in the electricity bills, with lower indoor temperatures, reduced bulb wattage, and fewer bulbs overall. This change inspired the owner to educate his staff and customers about energy savings. He hopes to one day conduct "Lighting Education" in the community to help everyone save money and reduce carbon emissions.
Simple Transformation, Great Atmosphere
Antler Park: Previously using 60W tungsten bulbs that consumed a lot of energy and generated heat, the switch to 10W LED bulbs now illuminates every dining table beautifully, cutting electricity costs by at least 30%!
Watchmaker's Workshop: Originally using 40W fluorescent tubes, the transition to 20W LED tubes now brightly showcases the watches in the display window, saving the owner NT$7,000 to NT$8,000 annually on electricity.
Home Space: The former 23W energy-saving bulbs weren’t efficient enough. Now, 10W LED bulbs make the 50-square-meter living space more eco-friendly.
Community Space: Public areas initially used nearly 200 4-foot, 40W mercury tubes, all replaced with 20W LED tubes, saving the management committee at least tens of thousands of dollars annually on electricity, and ensuring residents' fees are well spent.
Embark on a Mediterranean Culinary Journey
The owner of Antler Park, Mr. Huang Delong, who was previously featured in reports on the Watchmaker's Workshop, is passionate about deer and loves traveling, making friends, and enjoying fine cuisine. Following the food safety storm, he embarked on a journey to realize his dream of creating a safe restaurant, carefully selecting suppliers and using fresh local ingredients, insisting on making every sauce in-house, focusing on low-salt, vegetable-rich Mediterranean cuisine. Every bite reflects this dedication.
What’s even more endearing is the restaurant’s openness to customer feedback. Recently, to show care for animals and promote energy conservation, the restaurant has joined the “World Meat-Free Day” movement, offering a variety of vegan menus to encourage friends who don’t usually eat vegetarian meals to try a day or a meal without meat. You can easily reach the restaurant by taking the MRT to "Tucheng Station" and then riding a Ubike, embarking on a journey to discover LED deer horn lights!
